"I really do care about people. I knock myself out for my patients--even if it is down to one refraction, I want it to be best glasses the patient has ever had."

Personalized service is another component of Dr. Aaby’s practice. For example, he phones his patients before and after surgery to make sure they get home okay and are feeling alright.

"I do not think that I have ever done any single great thing. But I try to do a lot of little things very well."

"I really do care about people. I knock myself out for my patients--even if it is down to one refraction, I want it to be best glasses the patient has ever had." Aazy A. Aaby, MD practices comprehensive ophthalmology and is the pediatric specialist at the NW site of EHNW. He really enjoys children because they are “fresh, fun and filled with potential”. His pediatric patients enjoy him in return because he knows how to relate on their level. His adult patients also like him because they know he is kind, funny and dedicated to giving the best care possible.

Dr. Aaby invests in every detail of a patient’s care."I try to do the best I can even for the small things. Just because a technician can perform the task that I am doing does not mean that I give it any less attention.” He knows that the best treatment requires that each step of a process is completed with the same care and quality of surgery."I do not think that I have ever done any single great thing. But I try to do a lot of little things very well.”

Personalized service is another component of Dr. Aaby’s practice. For example, he phones his patients before and after surgery to make sure they get home okay and are feeling alright."It’s just what I do." He frequently receives letters thanking him for the special attention that he gives each person.

Like many of the EHNW doctors, Dr. Aaby has been a leader in maintaining the highest quality in the medical profession. From 1997-2002, he served on the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Practice of Ophthalmology Advisory Committee for Education. Since 2002, he has been a faculty member in the Basic and Clinical Science Course textbook series. He authored four chapters in the 2008-09 edition. The BCSC is an essential resource for all ophthalmologists in their daily practice.

EHNW doctors believe in medical volunteerism and serving the neediest. In 1990 and 1992, Dr. Aaby traveled with Dr. Fonken to Romania to perform strabismus surgery—correction of wandering or crossed-eyes. This surgery gave the orphans a benefit well beyond their corrected vision. At the time, because of the political climate in Romania, children with uncorrected eyes were viewed as useless to society and warehoused for life. It was deeply gratifying for Dr. Aaby to help restore the eyesight and hope in these children’s lives.

Retinopathy prematurity is a condition in which there is underdevelopment in a newborn’s eye that causes retinal detachment and eventual blindness. Dr. Aaby was involved in all the early national studies for clinical research on this condition. A screening test is now readily available for infants to prevent this condition from advancing. Yet, even with this test, most doctors will not perform the screenings because of the low compensation and a fear of being sued. However, Dr. Aaby has filled this unmet need by performing regular screenings at local hospitals for years. I do it because its the right thing to do.

Dr. Aaby spends most of his free time focused on family activities. He and wife, Elizabeth, have two young children, and he has four adult children. The family likes to have outings to the zoo and local parks. They also enjoy gardening flowers and vegetables. There are also ongoing home projects like a recent backyard remodel. When he wants to truly relax, Dr. Aaby loves watching all types of movies. He likes the fact that movies “take you a place you have never been before”.

Dr. Aazy Aaby Reviews:
What a wonderful experience I can’t say enough kind things about Dr. Aazy A. Aaby, MD. I had been to another pediatric eye doctor and it was such a song and dance. As if we were buying a used car. No bedside manner, I was very nervous about taking our son today. What a night and day experience. I was immediately greeted at the front desk by a wonderful man Rene. How nice to be greeted with a smile and fabulous customer service. We waited less than a minute. Then Coral the nurse took us back to this clean colorful play area for children. My four year old was immediately put at ease. How smart! They also had a private family bathroom. Shortly after we were taken back to see Dr. Aaby and Jessy. My son was extremely nervous Dr. Aaby came up with all these fabulous ideas to check his eyes without scaring him. They truly know how to connect with children. I am so thrilled with Dr. Aaby my husband and I will be switching to see him too. The parking was such a breeze with a private lot for customers. Open on Saturdays what more could you ask for. Dr. Aaby even called later to follow up later that day to see how our son was doing. I wish all doctors operated like Dr. Aaby and his staff- Google Review
