Dr. Fonken graduated with "Honors" from the University of Arizona with a B.S. degree in Cellular & Developmental Biology. He attended the University of Arizona College of Medicine where he received his Medical Degree. Dr. Fonken served his Internship at the Tucson Hospital Medical Education Program and completed his Residency in Ophthalmology at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, OR.

Dr. Fonken joined the staff of EyeHealth Northwest in 1988 and practices Comprehensive Ophthalmology. Dr. Fonken has provided medical and surgical care as a volunteer in Nepal, Romania and Mexico.
