Dr. Prendergast, a Portland native, graduated from the University of Oregon with Phi Beta Kappa honors. He received his medical degree from the University of Oregon Medical School where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. Dr. Prendergast spent two years in the military as Sr. Asst. Surgeon at USPHS Hospital in Galveston, Texas. He completed his Residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Oregon Medical School Hospital and Clinics. Dr. Prendergast is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.

Dr. Prendergast joined EyeHealth Northwest in 1982 and has practiced General Ophthalmology since 1973. Dr. Prendergast has served as a consultant to the Oregon Commission for the Blind and has pioneered eye surgery in Oaxaca, Mexico for Northwest Medical Teams where he has volunteered for several years.
