“I believe we should strive to surpass our prior successes in surgery. Building upon my knowledge and experience is a gratifying and humbling challenge.”
Dr. Grealish is a comprehensive ophthalmologist with a focus on advanced cataract surgery and Lasik. “I find eye surgery fascinating because it requires a combination of old-fashioned craftsmanship with mastery of ever-advancing technology.” He is committed to providing optimal vision to his patients by using the latest technology in Lasik and Intraocular lens implants.
Integrity is the foundation of Dr. Grealish’s practice. “I have treated many family members, friends and colleagues over the years. I want every patient to know they are receiving the same level of quality service and advanced technology that I offer people close to me.” In fact, Dr. Grealish underwent Lasik surgery himself in 1998. Because he has personally experienced the joy of optimal vision without dependence on glasses or contacts, he is driven to bring this experience to his patients. “It is not uncommon after surgery that a patient literally jumps out of the chair and gives me a hug! I consider it a privilege to be able to give that benefit to patients.”
Dr. Grealish incorporates his education in physics and engineering with his research in molecular biology to navigate the complexity of emerging technologies that can benefit his patients. “I really enjoy exploring the latest advancements in vision correction surgery from a scientific viewpoint and then communicating those ideas to patients in a way that helps them make the best decisions for their vision.”
To keep abreast of emerging technology, he attends special conferences in the areas of laser surgery and lens implants. In 2008, he was one of 50 surgeons chosen to attend the VISX invitational conference for leaders in the field of Lasik surgery.
Dr. Grealish has made recreational time with his family a priority in his life. He met his wife, Alenka, while cycling around the lakefront in Chicago, his childhood hometown. They share a passion for cycling. Dr. Grealish has raced competitively since his teens. Now, cycling has become a family pursuit. The Grealishs have toured Italy and California on tandem bicycles with their two children.
Sailing is another of Dr. Grealish’s lifelong loves. He has crossed oceans and raced at a national level, but he particularly enjoys sailing with his family in the Puget Sound. “The most beautiful sailing venue in the world is right here in the Pacific Northwest.” He has built small wooden boats for his children and volunteered at their school teaching model boat building. “The kids have a natural love for crafting these beautiful wooden boats with their own hands.”
