Dr. Michael Page offering advanced procedures to our patients in corneal transplants.-September 2019

EyeHealth Northwest surgeon, Dr. Michael Page performed 2 successful DMEK surgeries last week.  DMEK is a safe and effective procedure for patients with fuchs dystrophy or pseudophakic corneal edema. DMEK is now offered by Dr. Michael Page and Dr. Amy Tong in our Westside offices and Wilsonville.

Advantages of DMEK are at 6 months post op and beyond, patients achieve a best corrected visual acuity that is 1-1.5 Snellen lines better.  Rates of graft rejection, already very low with DSEK (approximately 5-7%), are further reduced with DMEK (approximately 3%).  DMEK requires a smaller incision with fewer sutures.  Changes in astigmatism, refractive shift, and higher order aberrations are reduced relative to DSEK.  We now have over 10 years of data on DMEK as a safe and effective procedure in the hands of experienced surgeons.
