Born and raised in Portland, Dr. Ryan Kucala has always called Oregon home. He received his B.S. in Vision Science and Doctorate of Optometry degrees from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. During his time at optometry school, he was active in community outreach providing vision screenings to those with limited access to healthcare. He also joined a team of students and doctors traveling to Nicaragua to provide eye care to those in underprivileged communities. He was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa honors society and graduated with distinction. Following graduation, he then completed a residency in ocular disease at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida gaining additional training in the diagnosis and management of various complex eye conditions as well as surgical co-management.
Dr. Kucala practices comprehensive optometry including routine eye exams, contact lens fitting, and medical optometry. He enjoys helping people of all ages and prides himself in providing compassionate, evidence-based eye care. In his free time, he enjoys being active and exploring the beautiful Pacific Northwest with family and friends.

Once you have completed the forms, please bring them with you on the day of your appointment. Due to privacy issues, please do not attempt to send these forms to our office via e-mail.
Please check with your insurance company(s) to verify your “vision care” coverage for routine eye examinations by calling the customer service phone number listed on your insurance card. You may also call this same number to verify “medical” benefits for medically necessary visits and procedures.
The Day of Your Appointment:
Bring your current medical insurance card(s) with you.
As part of your examination with us today, your pupils may be dilated. With dilation, most people experience light sensitivity and difficulty with near vision (such as reading). Some individuals also have difficulty seeing in the distance. The effects of the dilation can last several hours.
