Diseases and Surgery of the Retina and Vitreous
Board Certified, American Board of Ophthalmology
Dr. Adam Hanif specializes in the medical and surgical management of retinal diseases. Originally from the Pacific Northwest, he ventured to Emory University for his undergraduate studies in chemistry, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. He remained at Emory for medical school, where he graduated with honors and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society by his peers.
After earning his medical degree, Dr. Hanif settled in Portland to complete his ophthalmology residency and vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the Casey Eye Institute, Oregon Health & Science University. As a retina fellow, he was awarded the Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Fellowship and served as a clinical instructor to medical students and ophthalmology residents. During this time, he gained extensive experience with emerging retinal therapies and advanced surgical techniques for complex retinal detachments, macular disorders, lens complications, and ocular trauma.
Dr. Hanif has a particular interest in using technology to individualize care for patients with conditions like macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. He has published numerous articles and book chapters spanning retinal disease, ophthalmic imaging, and artificial intelligence, and has served as an investigator on multiple clinical trials for macular degeneration, uveitis, and inherited retinal conditions. He is a board-certified ophthalmologist and an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, and The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
Outside of the office, Dr. Hanif can be found exploring the trails of the Pacific Northwest with his wife and their energetic German Shorthaired Pointer.
