Board Certified, American Board of Ophthalmology
The best experiences in his practice at EHNW have been the positive feedback from patients post-surgery when they say they can see better than ever.
“It is very satisfying to help someone with restored or improved sight.”
“It’s really a privilege to practice medicine. People come in with fears and misconceptions. Most people believe that sight is the most precious sense we have. So, to be in the position to help them with this is special.”
Andrew Romanowski, MD was born and raised in New York City. He left almost three decades ago, but he still loves to go back regularly to get a sense of his simple roots in a neighborhood where Polish is spoken before English in the stores. Though Dr. Romanowski still has a hint of a NY accent and loves to make trips back, Portland is a near perfect city for him to call home. He believes that both cities share a love of art, culture and good living.
Dr. Romanowski has an artist’s view of the world and brings this special perspective to his mastery of medicine. He finds it notable and poetic that as an eye specialist, the organ that he is dependent on to observe the patient is the same organ being observed in the patient. He believes that sight is the most important sense and delights in the beauty and intricacies of the eye.
Dr. Romanowski fuses excellent academic credentials and years of experience with a patient-centered approach. Research has shown that those doctors who spend the extra time and care in fully listening to all their patients concerns do a better job of diagnosing and treating their patients accurately and effectively. This is second nature to Dr. Romanowski who always takes whatever time is necessary to ensure the best patient care.

When he has time to play, Dr. Romanowski is an avid photographer of large format landscapes. You might see one of his framed pieces during an office visit to the Northwest site of EHNW. Impressionistic oil painting is also a love of Dr. Romanowski who recently finished a piece inspired by a scene he photographed of New York City’s Central Park in the Fall.
Beyond patient care, Dr. Romanowski invests in the improvement of the overall profession and services of ophthalmologists by volunteering his time with multiple organizations. He is an associate examiner of the American Board of Ophthalmology which is an honor bestowed upon the doctors who score the highest on their medical boards.
Also, as a reviewer for the American Medical Association Archives of Ophthalmology, Dr. Romanowski helps choose which articles will appear in the AMA medical journal. This enables him to stay at the leading edge of the latest research and findings in ophthalmology. Additionally, because diabetes is a disease that often afflicts eyesight, he also supports the American Diabetes Association through riding in the annual cycling fundraiser.
I don't wear glasses (nor contacts) and I really hate even thinking about my eyes being touched. That said, Dr. Romanowski has done a great job diagnosing an allergy-related issue and removing a foreign body from one eye. He has great bedside manner. There's really not much more you can ask from a doctor. They billed me electronically and I was able to log in and pay, which was convenient
Dr Romanowski is a wonderful doctor. Knowledgeable, detailed and optimistic! We have every confidence in him
Competent and friendly staff and Dr. Romanowski is brilliant!
The care is excellent and thorough. I have depended on Dr. Andrew Romanowski for many years to monitor all relevant conditions, e.g., glaucoma and macular degeneration, in addition to general eye care. The desk employees and various assistants in eye care have all been professional, courteous, helpful and thorough. Advice and care have been a great help
