Dr. Crawford practices comprehensive ophthalmology, specializing in cataract surgery, diabetic eye care, and glaucoma. He has practiced ophthalmology in Portland since 1984 and chaired the Division of Ophthalmology at Providence Portland Medical Center for many years. He also practices at Legacy Good Samaritan and Emanuel hospitals and is a clinical instructor at Casey Eye Institute, Oregon Health & Science University. Dr. Crawford joined Oregon Eye Specialists in 1994.
Dr. Crawford received his M.D. from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center. He is board-certified in ophthalmology.
In his time away from practice, Dr. Crawford enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, skiing and golfing.
Dr. Thomas Crawford is one of the best doctors I've ever had. He's been my ophthamologist for twenty years or more, not only handling the usual eye exams and prescriptions but also some surgery and other eye issues. He's skilled, knowledgeable and experienced, of course. As importantly and harder to find, he's a kind and empathic person who both listens with concern and communicates in a clear, respectful and patient manner. I wish all my medical practitioners could be of the same outstanding caliber.
I have been a patient of Dr. Thomas Crawford's for many years and he has treated me for many eye problems including bilateral retinal detachments (one requiring a vitrectomy) with appropriate retinal specialty referrals, abnormal optic discs and cataracts. Today's visit was for a pre-surgical evaluation in preparation for cataract extraction. Although I am a retired Internal Medicine physician, Dr. Crawford ensures he answers all my questions and confirms I have a good understanding of my eye problems and the necessary evaluation, available treatment, and follow-up. I have referred my wife, my daughter and her family, many other family members, and many patients when I was in practice to OES and to Dr. Crawford in particular. He is 5 star physician and I recommend him and OES without reservation.
The professionality, courteousness, and knowledge of the entire staff is always refreshing, especially during the pandemic. Dr. Crawford never seems rushed, and always answers any questions or concerns you may have. He always checks on prior visits to be sure of your baseline and continued care. Cannot recommend him or his office enough. My parents, family, friends and pastor and wife have also been his patient for many, many years until their passing, and always felt they had exceptional and thorough care
